Review the requirements, documents and application process, then discuss the next step for your circumstances.

Plan Your Spain Residence

Non-lucrative, remote-work, employment and family routes have separate eligibility and work-rights rules. Assess the appropriate route before committing funds.

Current route status

The former investor route is closed to new applications. Assess an available legal route before committing funds.

Family planning

Check who can accompany you, each person's documents and the rights attached to the chosen permission.

Travel and residence

Travel permission and the right to live or work in a country are different matters.

Long-term planning

Residence, long-term residence and nationality each have separate requirements.

Residence obligations

Review the actual presence and renewal rules for your route; do not rely on a universal minimum-stay claim.

Tax review

Obtain advice on your own tax circumstances; immigration permission does not automatically determine tax treatment.

Property decisions

Assess a property on its legal and financial merits, independently of residence eligibility.

Education planning

Check school admission, fees, location and the children's residence arrangements separately.

Spain's Golden Visa closed to new applications
The investor visa and residence provisions in Articles 63–67 of Law 14/2013 were repealed with effect from 3 April 2025. The closure covers the former investor route; buying property, placing a deposit or purchasing bonds does not create a new application under that repealed route.

Existing applications and permit holders
Applications submitted before the effective date and permits that were already valid are subject to transitional provisions. Review the actual submission date, permit, family circumstances and renewal requirements. An existing permit does not mean every future application is automatically accepted.

Assess other routes separately
Depending on your circumstances, it may be appropriate to review non-lucrative residence, international telework, employment, entrepreneurship or family routes. Each has its own legal basis, documentation and permitted activities. These are separate assessments, not a continuation of the closed Golden Visa programme.

Plan around actual residence and family needs
Compare work rights, income and insurance evidence, family eligibility, renewals and time spent in Spain. Residence, long-term residence and citizenship are distinct. A residence permit is not a guarantee of citizenship after five years, and requirements cannot be reduced to a universal seven-day stay rule.

Costs and professional support
Request a written breakdown of government charges, professional services and third-party costs before committing. Immigration permission, property ownership and tax residence require separate assessment. Do not assume that an immigration route provides a particular tax regime or guarantees a decision within 90 days.

Next step
Tell PremierVisa your nationality, current residence, family plans, work arrangements and whether you already hold a Spanish permit. Confirm the actual service provider, qualifications, written scope and fees before proceeding. Decisions rest with the competent Spanish authorities.

Checked on 15 October 2026. General planning information; check the current official rules and individual circumstances before applying.

Frequently asked questions

1. Can I make a new Golden Visa application through property or financial investment?

No new application can be made under the repealed investor provisions from 3 April 2025. Other residence routes require separate eligibility assessment.

2. What if I applied before the closure or already hold a permit?

Review the official transitional provisions against your submission date, permit and renewal circumstances.

3. Are digital nomad or non-lucrative routes the same as the Golden Visa?

No. Their legal basis, permitted activities, evidence and renewal requirements differ.

4. Does five years mean automatic Spanish citizenship?

No. Long-term residence and nationality are different statuses. Nationality requirements depend on the applicable rules and personal circumstances.

5. Can you guarantee approval, processing time or investment returns?

No. Government decisions and timelines are outside the provider's control, and investments carry their own risks.

6. What should I prepare for an initial discussion?

Your nationality, current country of residence, family details, work and income outline, preferred timing and any existing Spanish application or permit. Confirm the written scope and fees before instructing a provider.
