Canada Start-Up Visa: Supporting Organization Suspended or De-designated?
Canada's SUV intake is paused. For existing cases, distinguish suspension from loss of designation, possible application consequences and the individual instructions IRCC provides.
Suspension of the organization supporting a Canadian Start-Up Visa application does not mean every linked application has already been refused. Loss of designation is also different from a routine change of business name. IRCC describes different possible consequences. Establish the organization's formal status, your application's stage and any individual notification before deciding what action is needed. IRCC — Suspension or loss of designation
Checked on 18 October 2026, IRCC states that the Start-Up Visa Program was paused on 30 June 2026, with no new applications currently accepted and previously accepted cases continuing to be processed. This article concerns existing cases. It does not suggest that purchasing a new support letter can now start a new permanent residence application. IRCC — Start-up visa: About the process
Suspension can put linked applications on hold
IRCC can suspend an organization's ability to make commitments and put linked SUV applications on hold where it suspects non-compliance or false, misleading or inaccurate information. The published guidance describes suspension for up to nine months, potentially lifted earlier if the issue is resolved. An earlier lifting takes effect on the date the Department issues its notification. IRCC — Suspension or loss of designation
A representative's prediction that normal operations will resume soon is not evidence that IRCC has lifted the suspension. Keep formal announcements, correspondence from the organization and notices in your own application account in date order. If an individual document request arrives, address its actual instructions. A general report that applications are on hold should not be used to ignore a deadline appearing in your own case.
Loss of designation can lead to refusal or return
IRCC treats an organization as de-designated once it is removed from the designated-organization list. Its guidance says it can refuse applications based on that organization's commitment or return applications it has not started processing and refund fees. IRCC says it will notify affected applicants about next steps. Those possible measures should not be converted into a claim that every case will receive an identical outcome. A government fee refund is not automatically a refund of every private payment to an organization, agent or adviser. Private fees depend on the actual agreement, payment records and applicable law. Do not expand an official statement about government application fees into a promise that all commercial charges will be repaid. Where a dispute exists, organise the relevant records for appropriate professional assessment.
An old support document does not reopen intake
IRCC states that it stopped accepting organizations' commitment certificates after 31 December 2025, and applicants with valid 2025 certificates had to apply by 30 June 2026. Distinguish discussions with an organization, possession of support documents, an actual submission and a case accepted by the authority. Evidence of one status does not automatically establish the next. IRCC — Suspension or loss of designation
Another organization expressing interest does not establish an automatic transfer, permission to submit a fresh application or preservation of an earlier processing position. The official guidance does not provide that general guarantee. Any available procedure needs assessment against the individual notification and rules then in force. Continuing permanent residence processing also should not be treated as automatic extension of temporary immigration status or work permission.
Build a short case chronology before discussing a solution
Identify the supporting organization, support and commitment documents, actual permanent residence submission date, receipt or acceptance records and subsequent official notices. Separately record current temporary status and expiry dates. Distinguish documented events from verbal predictions. This gives an assessment a firmer starting point than asking only whether it is possible to switch organizations.
For an initial enquiry, provide a chronology with personal identifiers removed. Avoid sending a full passport, complete application number or confidential business records through a general contact form. PremierVisa can help organise the questions and records for review. Responses to document requests, adverse decisions or possible alternative routes require the complete notification and individual circumstances.
